Lorrtec engine manufacturer's opinion:
Maintenance, overhaul & engine preparation - Reliability
We sell top of the range engine parts to allow you to revise and upgrade your SSV engines, for leisure or competition: pistons, connecting rods, camshafts, valves, spring kits, ECUs etc.
Our assembly/machining/electrical workshops can also carry out all kinds of work: CNC cylinder head machining, replacement of valve guides and seats, crankshaft balancing, engine assembly, bench tuning, etc...
Which SSVs are concerned by a preparation?
We work on the 3 major brands of SSV :
These are the ones that are found in all competitions and they are also the most efficient.
Why prepare an SSV engine?
use of SSVs for recreational purposes :
For a leisure use the goal is to have a maximum of sensations: After preparation, the engine has more power, it gains in torque and acceleration, the response time is reduced and the acceleration improved.
To evolve in SSV everything is possible, the more the level of preparation is high and the more the pleasure will be great, without degrading the pleasure of driving.
USE In competition :
The SSV (Side by Side Vehicle) are commonly used in rallies on earth, in baja and Rally Raid (Dakar, Africa Eco Race, Silk Way, Taklimakan Rally...) as well as in mixed events open to SSV: 12 hours of Pont de Vaux, 24h of Paris TT, etc...
The regulations vary depending on the category and we are here to advise you. The goal may be to make the vehicles reliable for rally-raid for a long and intensive use, to adapt the vehicle to a specific regulation (FIA flange for example), or even to look for pure performance for "sprint" races.
The most popular SSV models are the Can-Am Maverick X3, Polaris RZR and Yamaha YXZ. 1000. On each of these models it is possible to improve performance by acting on the electronic box (reprogramming of the serial ECU or use of a Motec M130 ECU) or by working on the preparation of the engine: machining of the cylinder head, change of pistons: CP-Carrillo, connecting rods CP-Carrillo, camshafts Webcamshaft etc...
What is the first step to increasing performance?
The first step when you want to improve your SSV is to modify its electronic box.
Modification of the original computer :
It is possible to modify the original computer: in this case you send us the original computer, and we send it back to you with a specific programming. It is also possible to test the vehicles on the Rototest test bench.
The SSV are limited in top speed and it is possible to unlock the top speed (competition use only)
We can also change the fan trip threshold to allow better cooling of the motor.
The gain in performance is about 20 -25 hp with more torque (on turbo models).
The modification is very simple, you just have to disassemble your computer and reassemble it once modified by us.
With a MOTEC M130 competition computer
Replacing the electronic box with a MOTEC M130 ECU allows all parameters to be set. We recommend it for prepared engines.
- Feed control with knock sensor
- Boost control depending on the position of the "Boost" potentiometer
- Double mapping (with or without 25mm flange)
- FIA speed limiter 120/130 km/h
- launch control
- Fan control
- Water injection (if installed outside FIA)
- Simple diagnosis by PC
The box also allows to better monitor the state of the mechanics, especially for the Rally Raid:
- Belt temperature
- Exhaust temperature
- Fuel pressure
- Oil pressure
- Turbo rpm
Replacing the ECU with an M130 requires the use of an adapter interface to connect to the original harness. It requires a bench test for adjustment in most cases. A basic setting is provided depending on the model.
What skills are needed to prepare an SSV?
If you simply want to upgrade your SSV with a prepared electronic box, no mechanical skills are required. You can do it yourself.
If you have the skills in engine preparation but not in reprogramming, you can prepare your engine from the parts recommended by Lorrtec and then entrust us with the installation of the M130 box and its adjustment.
If you are a professional and you have a power bench you can make the preparation of the engine from our parts and adjust the SSV, or subcontract us the whole.
